Insurance and protection that fits the gaps you actually have

Many people are not sure what their existing policies actually cover, and that is a perfectly good place to start. We look at what would affect you and your family most, check what you already have, and fill what is missing.

You will be speaking with Isaac Fang, CFARepresentative of Phillip Securities

How we work through it

Three steps, your priorities first

1. Assess the risks

High-impact, high-probability events come first. But your priorities, not mine, decide the order.

2. Find the gaps

We review the policies you hold and the national schemes you already have, such as MediShield Life, CareShield Life, the Dependants' Protection Scheme and the Home Protection Scheme.

3. Compare the options

PhillipCapital offers products from a number of life and general insurers. I set the options side by side using the FDM method, weighted by what you said matters.

See this service on my PhillipCapital profile (Life Insurance and General Insurance).

Already insured?

Your insurance agent has left?

If the agent who sold you a policy has left the industry, you may have no one to call when you need to make a change or a claim. I can review those policies with you and service them going forward.

Buying a policy is a long-term commitment. Ending one early usually costs money, and the surrender value can be less than the premiums you have paid. That is why we review before we replace.

Questions about insurance reviews

A review starts from what you already hold. Bring your policy documents or annual statements, or just a list of what you think you have.

My insurance agent has left. Who services my policies now?

Your policy stays in force and the insurer remains responsible for it; an agent leaving does not cancel your cover. Insurers usually assign another representative, and you can always contact the insurer directly. If you would rather choose who looks after you, Isaac can review those policies with you and, where the insurer allows it, service them going forward.

Should I cancel an old policy and buy a new one?

Not before a review. Ending a policy early usually costs money, the surrender value can be less than the premiums you have paid, and new cover is underwritten on your age and health today. That is why the review comes before any replacement. Three questions before you commit to a long-term plan sets out what to weigh.

What do the national schemes already cover?

MediShield Life is health insurance for large hospital bills and selected outpatient treatment costs; CareShield Life pays monthly for life if you develop a severe disability; the Dependants' Protection Scheme is term life insurance for eligible CPF members; and the Home Protection Scheme is mortgage-reducing insurance for HDB flat owners. A review counts these first, so you do not pay twice for the same cover. Life insurance in Singapore since 2001 explains how the shield plans build on MediShield Life.

What does an insurance review involve?

An insurance review lists what you hold, what each policy pays and when, and what the national schemes add, then compares that with what would affect your family most. Bring your policy documents or annual statements; any gaps become clear from there.

How much life insurance do I need?

It depends on who relies on your income, what you owe, and what you already hold, so there is no single right figure. A review works it out from your own numbers: the income your family would need, debts to clear, and what existing policies and schemes would already pay.

Which insurers can you compare?

PhillipCapital offers products from a number of life and general insurers. Isaac sets the options side by side using the FDM method, weighted by what you said matters. Insurer and product names are discussed in a review, not listed on this site.
